English: Here's Nira going all in during protection work. The "prey", i.e the sleeve, is moving to the side in a clear gesture but Nira is still rather keen on having her new helper, Kenneth, for breakfast. (It makes you wonder if Nira's skipped breakfast this morning?)
We learned this weekend that Nira likes to be angry in her protection work, but she still shifts to prey drive when biting. This means she is capable of still having a clean, steady and good bite since she doesn't bring the aggression into it. By reinforcing her prey drive more and teach her which behaviour to respond with to the helper's signals, her ability to shift between the two drives will improve together with the quality of her protection work.

Den här helgen lärde vi oss att Nira tycker om att vara arg i sitt skyddsarbete men hon skiftar dock fint till byte när hon väl biter. Detta innebär att hon fortfarande har ett rent, lugnt och bra bett eftersom hon inte tar med sig aggressionen in i själva bettet. Genom att stärka upp hennes bytesdrift och tydligare lära henne vilket beteende som ska svara upp gentemot figurantens signaler, kommer hon bättre skifta mellan de två drifterna, byte och försvar, och därigenom ökas kvaliten på hennes skyddsarbete.

Bubblis är avslappnad precis bakom honom, redo för nästa moment i arbetet. Det är tydligt hur figuranten och hunden här är helt inne i sina uppgifter, såsom det ska vara, och Qwerro kan arbeta självständigt med sin förare nära utan några konflikter mellan självständighet och lydnad. During the weekend we discussed this part of the protection work, since it's common to see conflicts between handler and dog in this kind of situation. We learned that if that kind of situation would arise, the best thing is to work around that conflict, rather than adressing it directly. You want the relationship between the dog and the handler to be harmonious and simple to understand for the dog. Instead of taking the conflict between handler and dog, you solve the issue by adressing it between helper and dog instead. In this picture, we see handler and dog in good harmony.---

Svenska: Qwerro avnjuter att hålla sitt byte tillsammans med sin förare. Under helgen diskuterade vi den här delen av skyddsarbetet, då det är vanligt att se konflikter mellan förare och hund i den här typen av situation. Vi lärde oss att om så skulle ske, så är det bästa att arbeta runt konflikten istället för att ta den direkt mellan förare och hund. Man vill att relationen mellan förare och hund ska vara harmonisk och enkel. Istället för att ta konflikten mellan föraren och hunden så löser man problemet mellan figuranten och hunden istället. I den här bilden ser vi hund och förare i god harmoni.

English: In this last picture is Qwerro working in aggression drive (to protect/defend). The helper is challenging the dog by using different signals in his body language and the dog is answering up to them. Qwerro is steadily working on his own, on his slacked leash. He's focussed on the helper, not the prey (the sleeve) and he's clearly showing aggression. Even for a novice, it's quite easy to tell the difference between the dog's body language in this last picture as opposed to the previous one. ---

Här utmanar figuranten hunden genom signaler i sitt kroppsspråk och hunden svarar upp. Qwerro jobbar vant i slakad lina, svarar upp mot figuranten istället för bytet (ärmen) och hunden visar tydligt aggression. Även för ett otränat öga är det lätt att se skillnad på hundens kroppspråk om man jämför med den tidigare bilden.
